Oregon man and companion died in British Columbia plane crash
Friday June 20, 2003
ANAHIM LAKE, British Columbia (AP) A float plane crashed near
Nimpo Lake near this hamlet west of Williams Lake, leaving a
university professor from Oregon and another man dead.
The plane appeared to experience trouble on a return flight
Wednesday to the Wilderness Rim Resort, where Bob Baker and John
Holmes had been staying in the sparsely populated West Chilcotin
region, Bill Yearwood of the Transportation Safety Board said.
``On the return, the aircraft was observed on a steep bank and
it impacted the ground around 100 feet from the lodge,'' Yearwood
said.
The crash, which caused two fires that burned for almost three
hours, was being investigated by Royal Canadian Mounted Police from
Anahim Lake, the regional coroner's office and the safety board.
