One man arrested for allegedly robbing passengers aboard train

Friday February 14, 2003

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) One person suspected of robbing passengers aboard a Blue Line train was arrested after authorities stopped the train and searched it for more than an hour.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies and Long Beach police stopped the train at a Long Beach station shortly after 9:15 p.m Thursday. A caller reported that the robbers were accosting people, said sheriff's Sgt. Augie Pando.

Dozens of law enforcement officers quickly surrounded the train, which carried about 60 people, and began ordering those aboard to exit with their hands up

A stolen cell phone was recovered and one suspect, who was not identified, was in custody, Pando said. He didn't know how many robbers had been involved or whether they had weapons.

No other details were immediately available.
