Thousands of illegal fireworks seized at SoCal warehouse

Friday June 20, 2003

PICO RIVERA, Calif. (AP) Sheriff's deputies confiscated thousands of illegal fireworks estimated to be worth $300,000 from a warehouse just weeks before the Fourth of July, authorities said Friday.

The items included M-80 firecrackers and skyrockets. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Major Crimes and Cargo-Theft bureaus seized the fireworks Thursday afternoon at a warehouse along San Gabriel River Parkway, said Lt. Gary Kimble. Investigators did not immediately determine where the fireworks came from.

Four men, whose names were withheld, were booked for investigation of felony possession of explosives and held on $500,000 bail each, said a jail assistant.
