Three arrested after CHP chase that kills two
Sunday August 17, 2003
LOS ANGELES (AP) Three men fleeing California Highway Patrol
officers in a stolen car were arrested after causing a three-car
crash that killed two people, authorities said Saturday.
Aaron M. Keller, 33, and Jacob S. Bertucci were killed Friday
when their 2002 Nissan collided with another car in Hollywood after
being hit by a stolen 2001 Volkswagen, CHP said in a statement.
Bertucci's age was unkown.
The three unidentified men were treated for minor injuries,
including a broken foot, the CHP said. The driver of the third
vehicle, a 1995 Toyota, suffered moderate injuries to his collar
bone, neck and back. His name was not released.
The three could men face murder charges, the CHP said.
The chase began shortly before 10 p.m. Friday when CHP officers
attempted to stop the Volkswagen on Sunset Boulevard for a traffic
violation.
The driver refused to stop and drove south at a ``high rate of
speed'' until striking the Nissan, the CHP said.
The impact knocked the Nissan into an oncoming eastbound lane,
where the passenger side was hit by the Toyota.
The three men were arrested while attempting to run away after
the crash. Their car had been reported stolen since Tuesday.
