Earthquakes 1, Revolution 1
Sunday August 17, 2003
FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) Taylor Twellman scored his league-leading
13th goal in the 52nd minute on Saturday night to give the New
England Revolution a 1-1 tie with the San Jose Earthquakes.
Western Conference-leading San Jose (10-3-7) took a 1-0 lead on
Brian Ecklund's first goal of the season in the 23rd minute.
New England (5-7-8) remained winless in its last eight games
(0-3-5) despite outshooting the Earthquakes 15-5 and having a 12-5
advantage in corner kicks.
Twellman scored after teammate Wolde Harris collected the ball
deep in San Jose territory. It was the first goal against
Earthquake goalie Pat Onstad in 398 minutes.
Ecklund put San Jose ahead when he knocked a 25-yard free kick
to the left of goalkeeper Adin Brown.
San Jose midfielder Brian Ching suffered a ruptured Achilles'
tendon during the first half.
The match was delayed 26 minutes at the beginning of the second
overtime period by a severe lightning storm that prompted Gillette
Stadium security personnel to evacuate spectators from their seats.
