SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) The San Jose Sharks scored four
first-period goals and made them stand up for a 4-3 victory over
Vancouver on Thursday night in an NHL exhibition game.
San Jose's Jonathan Cheechoo broke a scoreless tie at 7:55 of
the first period following assists from Mike Rathje and Mike Ricci.
But the Canucks rallied to lead 2-1 on goals by Sami Salo at
9:23 and Artem Chubarov at 9:45. The Sharks then quickly fought
back to regain the lead with a three-goal burst within a stretch of
just 1:40.
Vincent Damphousse scored at 12:33, Christian Ehrhoff at 13:59
and Wayne Primeau at 14:13. The second period was scoreless, but
the Canucks drew closer 1:57 into the third period on a goal from
point-blank range by Magnus Arvedson.
Vancouver took 35 shots on goal to San Jose's 24. Sharks goalie
Evgeni Nabokov saved 32 of 35 shots, and Vancouver's Tyler Moss
saved 20 of 24.
Rathje, San Jose's Nils Ekman and Vancouver's Brad May had two
assists each, while Primeau and Chubarov had a goal and an assist
apiece.
San Jose is 3-4-1 in the preseason, while the Canucks are 5-4.
