No. 25 Washington 111, UCLA 77

Saturday February 01, 2003

SEATTLE (AP) Giuliana Mendiola scored a school record and career-high 43 points as No. 25 Washington beat UCLA 111-77 Saturday.

The Huskies (17-3, 9-2 Pac-10) opened the game hitting six of their first seven 3-pointers, including two each from Loree Payne and Emily Autrey. Washington led 24-4 just five minutes into the game.

Mendiola shot 15-of-20 from the field, set a career high with six 3-pointers and had 12 rebounds. Autrey tied a career high with 23 points.

The victory extended Washington's home winning streak to 11 games the sixth longest in school history. The record is 30 straight set from 1986-88.

Michelle Greco, who leads the Pac-10 in scoring with 19.2 points per game, had 29 for the Bruins (12-8, 7-4). Nikki Blue added a career-high 35 points in the loss.

The Bruins got only as close as 21 points in the second half, 83-62. UCLA has lost four of its last five games.

The 111 points were a season high for Washington, just three short of the school record of 114.

The Huskies' 17-3 record is their best start since they went 17-2 during the 1989-90 season.
