Friday February 07, 2003
BOISE, Idaho (AP) Kirk Snyder made three free throws in the
last 50 seconds as Nevada beat Boise State 67-64 Thursday night.
Snyder's free throws were part of three two-shot opportunities
and a chance to score six points. He was able to convert only one
free throw each trip to the line, but that was enough to preserve
the victory for the Wolf Pack (12-8, 7-3 Western Athletic
Conference).
Nevada led 64-59 with 1:46 left on a drive to the basket by
Jerry Petty. Boise State's Aaron Haynes, who was the Broncos
leading scorer with 19 points, hit a 3-point field goal with 1:24
left to make 64-62. During the last minute, two free throws by
Boise State's Brian Defares and the three free throws by Snyder
capped both teams' scoring.
Snyder missed a free throw with 3.8 seconds left and Boise State
(10-10, 5-5) got the rebound, called time out to set up one last
play, a full court pass to Defares, who was long with his 3-point
attempt.
Nevada was led by Terrance Green with 20 points and Snyder with
18, including 11 of 15 from the line.
For Boise State, Joe Skiffer had 11 and Defares 10.
Boise State shot 54 percent in the first half to take a 38-32
lead, but could manage only 36 percent in the second half.
Nevada, led by Green and Snyder, went on a 15-4 scoring run in
the first seven minutes of the second half to take a 47-42 lead.
Green and Boise State's C.J. Williams engaged in a duel driving
to the basket and trading field goals until Green put the Wolf Pack
ahead 54-50 with 8:28 left.
Booker Nabors hit a 3-pointer off a turnover with 3:58 left to
bring Boise State to within one, 60-59.
