FRESNO, Calif. (AP) Travis DeManby scored 15 points, all on
three-pointers, as Fresno State defeated Idaho State 65-53 on
Friday night in Ray Lopes' Bulldogs coaching debut.
Noel Felix added 12 points for Fresno State (1-0), which shot
37.9 percent from the field. Damon Jackson had seven points and a
game-high 12 rebounds.
Rashad Kirkland scored 12 points and Scott Henry added 11 for
Idaho State (1-3).
Two DeManby's three-pointers, the second with 5:10 left in the
game, put the Bulldogs ahead 53-39 after the Bengals had closed to
within five points.
Fresno State led 34-22 at halftime. After Jeremy Brown's
three-pointer with 9:15 left pulled Idaho State to within 20-18,
the Bulldogs closed the half on a 14-4 scoring run.
Lopes, a former assistant at Oklahoma, replaced Jerry Tarkanian,
who retired following seven seasons at his alma mater.
The Bulldogs advanced to the McCaffrey Classic championship
against St. Mary's, a 75-66 winner over Sam Houston State in the
early game.
