Sunday December 15, 2002
SAN DIEGO (AP) Tony Bland had 19 points and Mike Mackell added
15 points and eight rebounds as San Diego State beat Hawaii 60-49
Saturday night.
The game was tied 22-22 at the half, but the Aztecs (4-3) proved
too much for Hawaii (2-1) in the second, shooting 60 percent from
the floor.
San Diego State have now won four of its last five games.
Dismal shooting by the Aztecs sparked Hawaii's comeback, as San
Diego State went more than six minutes without scoring, at one
point missing 11 consecutive shots.
The second half was another story for the Aztecs. Led by the
combination of Mackell and Bland, San Diego State took over midway
through the second half, going on a 13-4 run to pull ahead 49-40.
Carl English scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the
Rainbows, and Phil Martin added 14 points.
