Dodgers re-sign reliever Carrara

Monday February 03, 2003

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers reached agreement with reliever Giovanni Carrara on a $790,000, one-year contract Monday, avoiding salary arbitration.

Carrara was 6-3 with a 3.28 ERA and one save in 63 games last season. He had career highs in appearances and innings pitched with 90 2-3. He earned a no-decision in his only start, a 3-2 victory over Colorado on Sept. 25, in which he allowed two runs in five innings.

The right-hander had asked for $880,000, while the Dodgers offered $725,000.

Carrara was sixth among NL relievers with 85 2-3 innings pitched.

He's made 110 appearances for the Dodgers over the past two seasons, with a 12-4 record and 3.22 ERA and one save.

The Dodgers have 39 players on the 40-man roster under contract for the upcoming season. Pitchers and catchers are due at spring training in Vero Beach, Fla., on Feb. 12.
